Guest Communication

StayShift will reach out to the guest to get their side of the story and attempt to resolve the issue directly if possible.

How quickly will my claim be processed?

Most claims are reviewed within 3-5 business days of submission. If approved, payment is typically issued within 5-10 business days. Complex claims requiring additional investigation may take longer.

What if the guest disputes the damage claim?

StayShift will mediate between you and the guest. We'll review all evidence from both parties, including your documentation and the guest's response. Our goal is to reach a fair resolution based on the facts.

Can I file a claim for multiple damages from one booking?

Yes! You can include all damages from a single booking in one claim, as long as they're all reported within 72 hours of discovery. The $1,000,000 limit applies to the entire booking occurrence.

Does the Host Guarantee cover security deposit amounts?

The Host Guarantee is separate from any security deposit you may collect. Many hosts choose to require a security deposit through StayShift for minor damages, using the Host Guarantee for larger claims that exceed the deposit amount.

What evidence do I need to support my claim?

Strong claims include:

  • • Clear photos/videos of the damage from multiple angles
  • • Before photos showing the property's condition pre-booking (if available)
  • • Written estimates from licensed contractors or repair professionals
  • • Receipts for any emergency repairs already completed
  • • Communication with the guest about the damage

Will filing a claim affect my hosting status?

No. Filing legitimate damage claims will not negatively impact your hosting account or listing visibility. The Host Guarantee exists to protect you, and we encourage hosts to use it when needed.

Can I file a claim if the guest paid outside of StayShift?

No. The Host Guarantee only covers bookings where payment was processed through the StayShift platform. This is one of the key reasons we require all payments to go through our system – it ensures you're protected.

Does the guarantee cover legal fees if a guest sues me?

Yes! The liability portion of the Host Guarantee includes coverage for legal defense costs if you're sued by a guest for bodily injury or property damage related to their stay, up to the policy limits.

Should I still carry my own insurance?

Absolutely. The Host Guarantee is designed to work alongside your existing homeowner's or landlord insurance, not replace it. Think of it as an additional layer of protection that fills gaps and provides extra coverage specifically for hosting activities.
